We have been really touched by our dedicated supporters and fundraisers, who have continued to challenge themselves in support of Alzheimer Scotland during this uncertain time.
Whilst we have created a dedicated Alzheimer Scotland Strava page, a helpful way for our fundraisers to stay motivated and on track with their training at a time where most big events have been cancelled, some of them were keen to still complete their challenges, albeit in a different way.
Jenny Gray, from Jersey, was due to tackle the London Landmark Half Marathon this weekend. Jenny said: “I started running in last year and fell in love with it! I had previously completed a 10k comfortably and was lucky enough to win a ballot entry to the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
“I’m raising funds for Alzheimer Scotland in memory of my father-in-law Jim, who made me laugh the moment I met him. I didn’t get to know him properly as Alzheimer disease took him far too soon and left behind a family who have welcomed me with open arms and hearts.”
Understandably the London Landmark Half Marathon was postponed until further notice. Jenny didn’t want her months of training and preparation to go to waste, so made the decision to complete her own version of the half marathon.
Jenny said: “Sunday (22 March) was my big day. I ran from coast to coast in Jersey, complying with social distancing, and completed the 13.1 mile challenge. So far I’ve raised £1,235.27, donations are still coming in and my work will match whatever my final amount is too!
“I’ve heard Stirling have a rather nice marathon so this might just be the next challenge but for now, I’m enjoying the rest. I continue to wear the Alzheimer Scotland top with pride.”
Thank you, Jenny!
