Checking out Gingham

Today we’re going to talk gingham. A pattern that I honestly never thought I’d wear again once I left school. Eight years of a yellow gingham shirt (yes, you read that correctly … yellow gingham!) followed by teenage years in blue gingham had surely scarred me for life? Not to mention all those connotations of picnic tables. No! Gingham was most definitely not for me.
But never say never and recently on a little scout around TKMaxx, I was strangely drawn to this gingham shirt. Difficult to explain why really as I wouldn’t be the biggest fan of frills or lace. Nevertheless, appeal it did and at less than €20 it seemed almost rude to leave it behind.

It also got me thinking about what an ideal pattern this is for anyone with scalp psoriasis. What a wonderful way to camouflage flaking and indeed, in wardrobes so often dominated by a paler palette, what a great way to add a bit of interest. Off I went for a little browse online and this is what I discovered.

Who can resist a designer collaboration when it’s done well? The Studioby Preen Navy Gingham Print Frilled Shirt is available from Debenhams for €66.15

Without buttons this time, the Mutton Sleeve Blouse from Topshop, €40, would work brilliantly with tailored trousers for work, or with jeans and trainers for a lazy summer BBQ.

A change from the blues now with this
Red Gingham Check Tie Sleeve Bardot Shirt, €37 from River Island. A perfect fashion piece at a good price for the summer months.

Injecting the ‘wow factor’ with this Wraparound Blouse from H&M for just €39.99. Great with high waisted jeans or wide legged trousers and also a really good shape to pair with a simple, straight maxi skirt.

If you’d rather keep the pattern to your lower half, these Mono Gingham Taper Trousers, €44 from Next are very chic. Pair with a smart white shirt for work, or team with a slouchy tee/sweater and trainers, as worn by the model, for more relaxed weekend look.

A statement jacket is always fun to have in your wardrobe and this ‘60s inspired, Gingham Check Cardigan (I’d definitely call it a jacket, not a cardigan) from Zara, €59.95,will carry you well into the Autumn months.

And saving the best for last … this utterly gorgeous Slim Fit Gingham Check trouser suit from Massimo Dutti. I absolutely adore this. Wear as separates, wear together, utterly divine!
Trousers, €79 and jacket, €149

So have I convinced you to check out some gingham? Boom! Boom! Ok, that was bad … I’m sorry … I’ll stop now! Have a great week.
